Charles Movalli

Charles Movalli paints primarily New England Landscapes and Seascapes in oil. His works are characterized by dramatic brushstrokes and vivid color. The composition of each work is uniquely appropriate to the subject matter, providing appropriate emphasis to the center of attention that he hopes to hold. Yet his loose works are best described as boldly impressionistic, leaving much to be filled in by the observer.

Simplification and expression are his watchwords. He says: "...it can't look as though you've worked too hard and long, even if you have... for me painting is reaction. It is a matter of swiftly pursuing an insight to its logical conclusion."

Over the years he has lectured and given demonstrations for over 100 organizations and juried exhibitions. He is an avid teacher as well as painter. He has furthered the careers of literally scores of aspiring young artists. He has a PHD in English, and earlier in his career was an aspiring student of renowned and now deceased New England Landscape artist Emille Gruppe. He even edited four of Gruppes books during their earlier collaboration. He has received more than 50 awards from numerous organizations for his artwork, and his pieces are owned by private and public collectors around the world.
