Colin Page

Colin Page paints almost entirely en plein air, enjoying the beauty and serenity of the outdoors that is almost always the subject of his paintings. He views creating art as a quiet, reflective time, which enables him to cultivate an intimacy with every subject. His emphasis is on capturing the light and atmosphere of a scene through the use of color and a painterly application.

In describing his work, Colin Page says: “Painting is making everyday scenes into the poetic. Through painting a place I find moments of beauty in the space around me. The story I tell as a painter is one of how that particular scene has captured me- how I see beauty in it. At the same time the painting should look as though it breathes, and has a life of its own.”

Colin Page spent his youth in Maryland, then studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and Cooper Union. After painting and working in the art industry for several years in New York City, he escaped to the Maine seacoast to paint in a quieter place with more diverse landscape. He says that with respect to his technical and spiritual inspiration, he is guided by the words and paintings of Rembrandt van Rijn, Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, Don Kunz, and Richard Diebelkorn, among others. His work is found in collections throughout the Northeast.
