Jack Flynn

Jack Flynn is a renowned watercolorist whose work is highly collected by individuals and museums nationwide. His subject’s center on bucolic farms and domestic animals often captured in the fleeting natural drama of storms and seasonal changes. Jack Flynn’s palette gives us a feeling of a rapidly changing moment caught in motion in subtle layers of light and shadow. His watercolors are rich and highly textured often in earthy tones whether of sky and hill or village life where denizens are grouped together moving through the scene in similar anonymity as the farm animals in country scenes.

Devoted to his art, Jack Flynn comments that “…years ago I tried to paint oil and when I went to the William Schultz Art School, Schultz encouraged me to try watercolor. I’ve been painting ever since, for about 50 years.”

A native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts in the Berkshires, Jack Flynn now resides in Virginia. A graduate of Boston’s Butera School of Fine Arts, he also studied with Don Stone of Rockport, Massachusetts and with William J. Schultz of Lenox. He is an elected member of the American Watercolor Society.
